DOJ Civil Rights Officials Resign Over Renee Good Killing Probe

The resignations include the chief of the criminal unit, Jim Felte, along with the principal deputy chief, deputy chief, and acting deputy chief. Their departure follows the administration's decision to bypass the Civil Rights Division, which typically works alongside the FBI to guide strategy in cases of potential police misconduct. While the FBI is conducting its own probe into ICE agent Jonathan Ross, the DOJ has actively blocked Minnesota state authorities from investigating the shooting.

Despite video footage showing Good’s vehicle was turned away from the agent, the administration continues to label her a "domestic terrorist," claiming Ross fired defensive shots. Experts, including former Civil Rights Division head Vanita Gupta, noted that excluding the division from a high-profile agent-involved shooting is unprecedented. This exodus is part of a broader trend, with hundreds of attorneys leaving the department since the start of the current administration, citing a systematic abandonment of the division’s mandate to enforce federal civil rights laws.
