Uber Gains Weekend Yield Through Blockchain Treasury Pilot

The transaction marks a departure from standard treasury operations, where companies typically liquidate assets before Friday market closures. By leveraging HSBC’s tokenized bank deposits and Franklin Templeton’s fund products, Uber maintained its capital position throughout the weekend. While the specific dollar amount remains undisclosed, the result highlights the potential for blockchain infrastructure to eliminate the latency inherent in legacy settlement systems.

HSBC’s Manish Kohli noted that the pilot confirms the technical readiness of their tokenized deposit service, which is already operational across major global financial hubs including Hong Kong, Singapore, and the United States. Following this trial, the bank intends to expand access to a broader range of U.S. corporate clients. Fireblocks CEO Michael Shaulov projects that this model will see widespread adoption, predicting that hundreds of corporations will transition to similar blockchain-based treasury workflows within the next 18 months.
