Data Provider Allium Scrambles to Restore Services Following Breach

Allium detected unauthorized access to its internal systems on October 25, prompting an immediate shutdown of its primary application and Explorer APIs. While the company successfully restored its main infrastructure by October 28, the recovery process remains incomplete. Customers are currently required to generate new API credentials and implement heightened security measures, including mandatory multifactor authentication and password resets.

The breach significantly hindered the delivery of blockchain analytics to enterprise warehouses such as Snowflake, Databricks, and Google BigQuery. Although data flow has restarted, the company is still actively backfilling gaps created during the multi-day outage. According to CEO Ethan Chan, Allium is working with third-party investigators to determine the scope of the intrusion, though the firm has yet to confirm whether sensitive client information was exfiltrated or identify the parties behind the attack.

Founded in 2021 and recently bolstered by a $40 million Series B funding round, Allium plays a central role in the financial ecosystem by indexing complex onchain activity. Its tools are essential for clients like Visa, which utilizes the platform to track stablecoin payment volumes. Despite the scale of the disruption, Allium maintains that the incident was isolated to its own systems, stating that affected partners have been notified directly as the firm continues to verify the integrity of its historical datasets.
