Starting Wednesday, users can access RLUSD through Coinbase Prime, the exchange’s retail application, and Coinbase Exchange. The agreement allows for conversions between U.S. dollars and the stablecoin at a 1:1 ratio. Ripple has committed to providing liquidity for the token specifically on the Base network, further embedding the asset into the Ethereum-based ecosystem.
Despite the launch, several operational details remain unconfirmed. Neither company has released a comprehensive list of supported trading pairs, transaction fee structures, or specific regional availability. Unlike the established rewards program for USDC, there is no current incentive structure for holding RLUSD on the platform. Jack McDonald, Ripple’s senior vice president of stablecoins, noted that the partnership aims to satisfy growing institutional demand for regulated digital assets by consolidating execution and custody under a single infrastructure.
This integration follows a series of high-profile moves for Ripple, including recent collaborations with Robinhood and BNY. The latter serves as the primary reserve custodian for RLUSD, which is backed by cash, short-term government securities, and dollar deposits. While Moody’s recently assigned the token an A2 credit rating, Ripple continues to navigate the complexities of institutional adoption as it prepares to integrate the asset into Coinbase’s Global Exchange for future collateral use.
