The sharp rise in network activity coincides with the September rollout of permissionless smart contract deployment, which allows developers to push applications directly to the mainnet. While the network’s explorer confirmed the cumulative transaction count, the project has not disclosed specific data regarding active wallet addresses or the identity of the applications currently driving the volume.
Technological updates have played a pivotal role in this expansion. The release of Gero Wallet version 2.7.1 introduced support for shielded mainnet balances and sponsored transaction fees, known as DUST. This model enables developers to cover costs for users, reducing friction for those interacting with privacy-focused applications. The network distinguishes between its public governance token, NIGHT, and DUST, a non-transferable resource generated by holding NIGHT that is consumed during smart contract execution.
Institutional partnerships continue to shape the network’s long-term roadmap. Efforts include a collaboration with Monument Bank, which targets the tokenization of £250 million in retail deposits, alongside analytics integrations with Token Terminal and Dune. Despite these developments, the project remains in a phased transition from its initial federated operator model—featuring partners like Google Cloud and Worldpay—toward broader decentralization.
