The latest acquisition, disclosed by executive chairman Michael Saylor on October 19, brings the firm’s total Bitcoin holdings to approximately 4.04% of the asset's 21 million maximum supply. While the purchase price for this specific batch was not disclosed, the move underscores the company’s ongoing strategy of aggressive accumulation. This week’s transaction follows a pattern of incremental buying, though it remains smaller than several of the firm's earlier acquisitions this year.
Simultaneous with the Bitcoin purchase, the company aggressively targeted its own capital structure by repurchasing $193 million in STRC preferred shares. This follows a similar buyback of $192.4 million reported just one week prior. By retiring these shares at a discount to their stated value, management aims to reduce long-term dividend obligations. To facilitate further activity, the board has raised its Digital Credit Securities Repurchase Program limit from $2 billion to $3 billion.
Despite these maneuvers, the company’s reported dollar assets dipped to $5.3 billion as of October 18, down from $5.5 billion the previous week. Saylor also updated the firm's internal credit metrics, noting a Bitcoin reference price of $81,468 for its proprietary calculations. Investors are now looking toward the upcoming third-quarter financial results, scheduled for release on October 29, for a clearer picture of the firm's balance sheet and funding sources.
