World Launches Biometric Zoom Badges to Curb Deepfake Impersonation

The system mandates a three-way verification process, requiring a match between an initial iris scan from World’s Orb device, a live selfie, and the video feed captured during a Zoom call. Once authenticated, a badge appears on the participant's video tile to signal they are a verified human. The technology is specifically aimed at sensitive business environments where companies face increasing risks from AI-manipulated video feeds and impersonation attacks.

Financial firms, including Bain Capital and Pantera Capital, have joined the project as design partners for this enterprise expansion. While the tool is now available via the Zoom Marketplace for Windows and macOS, its adoption comes as global regulators continue to scrutinize the company’s biometric data practices. Authorities in regions including Kenya, Spain, and South Korea have previously raised concerns regarding the privacy and consent protocols surrounding the Orb’s iris-scanning operations. Despite this, World continues to scale its identity network, following a $52.5 million funding round earlier this year intended to support integrations across professional and AI-agent ecosystems.
