The expansion marks Anthropic's fifth Asia-Pacific base, following a Memorandum of Understanding signed by Permanent Secretary Kai Fong Chng and co-founder Ben Mann during Singapore International Cyber Week. The collaboration aims to integrate Claude into the city-state's digital infrastructure, supported by in-region inference capabilities via Amazon Bedrock to meet local data sovereignty requirements.
Public sector adoption is already underway, with over 1,500 technical personnel at GovTech Singapore utilizing Claude Code to modernize legacy systems. This integration extends into the private sector, where major regional players are leveraging the tool to drive efficiency. Ride-hailing giant Grab, for instance, reports saving 40,000 hours per quarter using its BriX internal sales assistant, while Sea and developer platform Supabase have embedded the technology into their core engineering workflows.
Beyond commercial implementation, the partnership deepens the existing relationship between the firm and the Infocomm Media Development Authority. Having participated in the Generative AI Evaluation Sandbox since 2023, Anthropic is now formalizing technical exchanges with the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore. These efforts include multilingual red-teaming assessments across English, Mandarin, Malay, and Tamil, alongside independent model safety testing conducted in coordination with the non-profit evaluation group METR.
