The funding round, announced October 15, attracted backing from Draper Dragon, Anchorage Digital, Flow Traders, and Solana Labs. The capital will support team expansion and the development of infrastructure designed to bring securities-backed lending to a broader investor base. By allowing users to pledge tokenized shares at a 50% loan-to-value ratio, Spout seeks to replicate the borrowing power typically reserved for private banking clients while removing the barrier of high interest charges.
CEO Marc Ryan stated that the platform is intended to democratize access to portfolio financing, contrasting the service with brokerage margin loans that can carry annual rates exceeding 12%. Instead of charging borrowers, Spout plans to write covered call options against the deposited shares, using the resulting premiums to compensate liquidity providers. While the project has secured high-profile advisors, including former CFTC Chairman J. Christopher Giancarlo, the platform remains in its testing phase on the Solana Devnet. A private beta is expected to precede a full mainnet launch, though the company has not yet provided a specific timeline for public deployment.
