Kalshi CEO Tarek Mansour defends prediction market transparency

Kalshi CEO Tarek Mansour defends prediction market transparency

Mansour characterized the massive volume of public trading data as both a challenge and a safeguard. By tracking contract movements, platforms can flag anomalies that attract scrutiny from both automated monitoring systems and the broader user community. When traders act on nonpublic information, they are essentially operating in plain sight, which allows exchanges to conduct rapid investigations, according to the CEO.

This defense follows several high-profile enforcement actions involving government employees and former lawmakers. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) previously sanctioned former representative George Santos for manipulating contracts tied to his attendance at the 2026 State of the Union. Kalshi received roughly 100 user reports regarding the activity, which accelerated the internal investigation. Similarly, the platform assisted the CFTC in a case involving Gabriel Perez, a former White House staffer who profited from advance knowledge of presidential speeches.

Beyond internal compliance, Kalshi has implemented mandatory employer disclosures to identify users who may possess sensitive information. However, the industry faces broader regulatory headwinds. While the CFTC asserts federal authority over these derivatives, states like New Jersey are challenging this jurisdiction in the Supreme Court, arguing that certain prediction contracts function as illegal gambling. Mansour warns that overly restrictive local regulations risk pushing the entire sector offshore, undermining the transparency benefits of domestic oversight.
