Netflix Sets November Premiere for FTX Drama The Altruists

The series explores the internal dynamics of FTX and its affiliated trading firm, Alameda Research, framing the pair as idealistic visionaries whose pursuit of financial disruption devolved into systemic fraud. Anthony Boyle stars as Bankman-Fried, while Garner portrays Ellison. Showrunners Graham Moore and Jacqueline Hoyt focus on the psychological erosion of their ethics, tracing how a series of small, calculated compromises led to the misappropriation of billions in customer funds.

Beyond the lead duo, the production features an expansive cast including Paul Reiser and Robin Weigert as Bankman-Fried’s parents, alongside portrayals of key FTX insiders like Nishad Singh and Gary Wang. Produced by Higher Ground, the company founded by Barack and Michelle Obama, the show draws narrative inspiration from New York Magazine reporting to reconstruct private interactions that occurred behind the scenes of the public collapse.

While the series prepares for its streaming debut, the real-world fallout continues to evolve. Bankman-Fried is currently serving a 25-year prison sentence following his conviction on multiple fraud and conspiracy counts, with his legal team recently petitioning the Supreme Court for a review of his case. Ellison, who cooperated with federal prosecutors and testified against her former colleague, has since transitioned to community confinement ahead of her scheduled release in early 2026.
