The service integrates Bitcoin, Ether, XRP, Solana, and USDT into existing FNB products, including Share Saver and Share Investor. Unlike standard crypto exchanges, the bank operates this functionality around the clock, bypassing traditional stock-market hours. Sizwe Nxedlana, CEO of FNB Wealth and Asset Management, stated the move responds to rising client demand for diversified investment options.
While the bank provides a streamlined entry point, the service includes a significant limitation: assets are ringfenced within the FNB ecosystem. Customers cannot transfer their cryptocurrency to external private wallets, nor can they deposit assets held elsewhere. Bheki Mkhize, CEO of FNB Wealth and Asset Management, emphasized that this is an initial phase, with plans to introduce further educational resources and investment choices as the bank navigates South Africa’s evolving regulatory landscape regarding cross-border digital asset transactions.
