The repayment, disclosed in an SEC filing on September 25, marks the conclusion of a financing agreement that had been active since April 2026. Because Riot settled the debt after the four-month anniversary of the agreement’s maturity date, the company avoided any early-termination fees or penalties. This discharge of debt terminates Coinbase’s commitment to provide further loans and restores full control over the Bitcoin reserves previously held by Coinbase Custody Trust Company.
At the end of June, Riot had 5,821 BTC pledged against the facility, representing approximately 51% of its total Bitcoin inventory. The loan had been operating under an April amendment that established a fixed 6.15% annual interest rate, a significant shift from the previous variable structure linked to the federal funds rate. Riot’s decision to clear the balance comes as the company continues to balance Bitcoin mining operations in Texas and Kentucky with its expanding data center infrastructure.
