The Glamsterdam package, combining the Amsterdam execution-layer changes and Gloas consensus-layer updates, aims to boost Layer-1 throughput. By enshrining proposer-builder separation (ePBS) through EIP-7732, the protocol will handle payments between builders and proposers directly, reducing reliance on external middleware. Additionally, EIP-7928 introduces block-level access lists, allowing clients to process transaction validation in parallel by tracking storage locations more efficiently.
Node operators on Sepolia must update their execution and consensus clients to compatible versions—such as Geth 1.17.6 or Prysm 7.2.0—before the activation timestamp. The Ethereum Foundation has cautioned that the upgrade alters gas accounting rules, which may disrupt decentralized applications that rely on hardcoded gas limits or fixed stipends. While the Sepolia date is confirmed, the subsequent Hoodi testnet remains tentatively slated for October 27, with no official timeline yet established for the Ethereum mainnet rollout.
