UN Accuses Israel of Weaponizing Food in Gaza Aid Distribution

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) reports that at least 410 Palestinians have been killed by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) while attempting to retrieve aid from hubs operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). This U.S.- and Israel-backed entity is staffed by private security forces, a model U.N. officials and humanitarian groups argue violates the neutrality essential to aid delivery. Spokesperson Thameen Al-Keetan stated that the mechanism contradicts international standards, forcing civilians into the lethal position of choosing between starvation and the risk of being shot or shelled.

The Legal and Humanitarian Crisis

The situation has drawn sharp condemnation from rights advocates, who warn that the system facilitates forced displacement and collective punishment. Jonathan Whittall, head of the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in the Palestinian territories, described the conditions as a death sentence designed to erase Palestinian life. With over 56,000 deaths recorded during the ongoing assault, 15 human rights organizations have formally warned the GHF that its contractors risk complicity in war crimes and genocide under international law. While the U.N. continues to press for legal accountability, the current reality remains defined by restricted access, with half of all proposed relief missions denied entry by Israeli authorities over the past weekend alone.
