The protocol will utilize Binance’s bStocks as tokenized spot collateral, paired with offsetting positions in equity perpetual futures. This setup allows Ethena to capture the price difference between the two markets, effectively hedging against the volatility of the underlying assets. Historically, Ethena relied on crypto-native derivatives to maintain its peg, but the new framework, sanctioned by the Ethena Risk Committee, targets the consistent yield found in traditional stock markets, which has averaged 3.56% annualized over the last six months.
Ethena Labs founder Guy Young characterized this expansion as a pivotal step for the protocol's funding mechanism, noting that the global equity market offers a significantly larger horizon than crypto-specific perpetuals. Binance has reported substantial growth in this sector, with equity perpetual open interest exceeding $2.9 billion and a compound monthly growth rate of 105% throughout 2026. By leveraging BTech Holdings Limited’s tokenized securities, Ethena aims to scale its operations while mitigating directional risk. This integration reflects a broader trend in the digital asset space, where traditional finance products are increasingly converging with on-chain infrastructure to provide deeper market liquidity and new yield-generating opportunities.
