Regulators remain increasingly wary of the sector's explosive growth, with global trading volume hitting $53 billion in July. Beyond federal oversight questions, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission has issued warnings regarding the susceptibility of event contracts to manipulation by insiders. These concerns are compounded by data from Pew Research Center indicating that a majority of active traders in sampled wallets lost money over a six-week window. As New Jersey challenges the scope of federal derivatives law in the Supreme Court, the debate persists over whether these platforms should operate under existing financial regulations or face stricter state-level gambling restrictions.
