The exchange is migrating ZIL balances from legacy mainnet addresses to the Zilliqa EVM network at a 1:1 ratio. While Binance handles this technical transition for its platform users, deposits and withdrawals via the older infrastructure remain suspended. Spot, margin, and futures trading for the token continue uninterrupted on the platform.
This infrastructure shift stems from a long-standing flaw in Zilliqa’s Ledger application, which incorrectly generated Schnorr signatures between 2019 and 2026. By fixing the top 64 bits of the signature's nonce at zero, the defect allowed attackers to reconstruct private keys from public signatures. Zilliqa confirmed that 6,772 accounts were identified as exposed, with at least 51 drained of funds. Consequently, the project is retiring the entire legacy stack to prevent further unauthorized access, as existing on-chain signatures rendered prior private keys fundamentally insecure.
For self-custody holders, Zilliqa has launched a zero-knowledge proof migration tool allowing users to transfer balances to EVM addresses without exposing their seed phrases. Meanwhile, the project is collaborating with law enforcement and exchanges to track stolen assets, with potential tokenomics changes and compensation plans currently under community review. By shuttering the legacy system, Zilliqa intends to solidify its EVM-compatible environment as the network's sole production standard.
