Democratic leaders, including Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Whip Katherine Clark, and Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar, justified their decision to vote "present" by insisting that a formal, evidence-heavy investigative record is a prerequisite for such proceedings. Nader dismissed this reasoning as a tactical error, suggesting that the party's fear of political fallout is a dereliction of duty. He drew historical parallels to the Nixon era, asserting that the current administration’s alleged transgressions far exceed those that triggered earlier presidential resignations, yet the party remains paralyzed by a lack of political resolve.
