Investigation Challenges Israel's Claims Over Al-Shifa Hospital

Investigation Challenges Israel's Claims Over Al-Shifa Hospital

The Israeli military launched its assault last month, asserting that five hospital buildings sat atop a network of tunnels used by militants to direct rocket attacks. However, the Post’s analysis of satellite imagery and IDF-released visuals found no proof that these buildings connected to the tunnel network or that militants accessed the tunnels from within hospital wards. Law professor Geoffrey Corn noted that the absence of expected findings raises legitimate questions regarding the military necessity of the operation.

While the IDF displayed a collection of rifles and grenades recovered during the raid, the newspaper could not verify the origins of the weapons. International observers, including the BBC, have reached similar conclusions, noting a disconnect between the IDF's public descriptions and the physical reality of the site. The raid resulted in significant casualties, including newborns, and further crippled Gaza's medical infrastructure. World Health Organization director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus recently stated that northern Gaza is now effectively without any functional hospitals, heightening the urgency for a humanitarian cease-fire to address the collapse of the territory's healthcare system.
