BDACS adopts LayerZero for cross-chain KRW1 stablecoin expansion

BDACS adopts LayerZero for cross-chain KRW1 stablecoin expansion

Previously, BDACS deployed KRW1 across separate networks like Avalanche, Ethereum, and Circle’s Arc, creating friction for users attempting to move capital between chains. By adopting the OFT standard, the firm gains a common framework that debits tokens on a source chain and credits them on a destination, effectively streamlining distribution. LayerZero’s infrastructure currently supports major stablecoins including PayPal USD and Tether’s USDT0, processing roughly $280 billion in lifetime transfer volume.

BDACS CEO Harry Ryoo stated that the shift provides the technical foundation necessary to scale the won-backed asset globally. The move arrives as South Korea refines its regulatory stance on digital money; the Bank of Korea continues to favor a bank-led issuance model as part of a broader Won Internationalization Roadmap. While legislative frameworks remain under negotiation, private entities like KT and the financial app Toss are actively testing infrastructure for won-linked settlement. Throughout this expansion, BDACS maintains that KRW1 reserves remain fully held at Woori Bank with independent attestations, supporting the firm's goal to facilitate institutional-grade payments and remittances beyond domestic borders.
