Hyperliquid Burns $830K in HYPE as Price Nears Record High

The repurchases were executed through the protocol’s Assistance Fund, an automated mechanism that converts the majority of eligible trading fees into open-market HYPE acquisitions. According to blockchain data from Onchain Lens, the tokens were bought at an average price of $85.27. While the current market value of all burned tokens is estimated at $4.14 billion, this figure fluctuates based on HYPE's price and does not reflect the historical acquisition cost.

Following the burn, HYPE traded near $86, marking a 2.6% gain over the period and remaining within 2% of its all-time high of $88.06. Although the purchase coincided with the price rally, analysts caution that the $830,000 buyback represents only a fraction of the $865 million in daily trading volume, making it difficult to isolate the burn's direct impact on market movement from broader derivatives activity.

Protocol revenue remains the primary driver for these burns, with activity-based fluctuations determining the daily repurchase volume. Looking ahead, the Assistance Fund is set to receive additional capital from the protocol’s USDC reserve-yield arrangement, with the first payment scheduled for October 3. As the program continues, observers are monitoring three key metrics: the quantity of tokens removed, the capital deployed, and the prevailing market price, as each variable shifts the efficiency of the overall supply-reduction strategy.
