Standard Chartered Launches Institutional Crypto Trading in Dubai

Clients accessing the service via the bank’s DIFC branch gain the ability to trade deliverable Bitcoin and Ether rather than derivatives tied to underlying prices. The rollout aligns with the bank’s broader strategy of embedding crypto execution into regulated banking infrastructure, a model first deployed through its UK operations in July 2025. By utilizing familiar electronic trading channels, institutional investors can manage digital asset exposure with the same operational rigor applied to traditional financial markets.

Flexibility remains central to the platform’s architecture, as the bank does not mandate the use of its own custody services. Institutions may choose to settle transactions with a custodian of their preference, effectively separating trade execution from asset storage. For those opting for internal solutions, the bank’s dedicated digital asset custody platform—licensed by the Dubai Financial Services Authority since September 2024—remains available. This integrated approach builds upon previous UAE initiatives, including collateral mirroring programs involving OKX and BlackRock’s BUIDL tokenized fund, which have established the DIFC as a primary hub for the bank's regional digital asset operations.
