Coinbase Expands Crypto Infrastructure Partnership to Webull Canada

Webull Canada Crypto Limited, a CIRO-regulated investment dealer, will utilize Coinbase’s Crypto-as-a-Service platform to manage digital asset transactions and storage. By connecting to this established infrastructure, Webull avoids building its own proprietary systems while maintaining control over the user interface. Michael Constantino, CEO of Webull Canada, noted that the move addresses rising demand for diverse asset classes among Canadian investors, who can now trade assets including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and XRP directly within their existing accounts.

The rollout aligns with shifting market trends in Canada, where crypto ownership has surged to 25% of the population, according to a recent Ontario Securities Commission survey. Despite this growth, regulatory disclosures highlight a critical caveat for users: while Webull Securities (Canada) Limited is a member of the Canadian Investor Protection Fund, crypto assets held through the platform do not qualify for CIPF coverage. This protection gap leaves investors exposed to risks distinct from traditional brokerage assets, such as platform insolvency or asset failure.

This agreement deepens an existing relationship that already spans the United States, Brazil, and Australia. For Coinbase, the partnership serves as a strategic channel to distribute its custody and liquidity services to Webull’s global network of 27 million registered users without requiring them to migrate to the native Coinbase application. The expansion follows a broader trend of Coinbase integrating with traditional financial ecosystems, ranging from tokenized stock offerings on its Base blockchain to regulated service hubs in Europe.
