BlackRock’s current crypto footprint is substantial, with its flagship Bitcoin fund, IBIT, holding $60.52 billion in net assets as of August 26. The firm’s two Ethereum products, ETHA and the staking-enabled ETHB, manage a combined $9.09 billion. Despite these figures, the company has maintained a narrow focus, leaving the door open for rivals to capture market share in alternative assets like XRP and Solana.
Geraci characterized the absence of additional altcoin products as surprising, suggesting that BlackRock may eventually capitulate to market pressures. However, this remains speculative. A search of SEC records reveals no active registration statements for XRP or Solana ETFs under the BlackRock banner. While competitors such as Bitwise and Fidelity have already launched products catering to a wider range of digital assets—with some XRP and Solana funds crossing the $1 billion threshold—BlackRock has yet to signal a formal departure from its current strategy. The firm’s next move will likely hinge on rigorous internal assessments of custody support, market liquidity, and sustained client demand rather than external market trends alone.
