Trump DOJ Hires Convicted Election Hacker for Voting Rights Role

Democracy Docket identified David Michael Levin through facial recognition analysis of images posted online. Levin, who previously served 20 days in jail for unauthorized access to Lee County and state election systems, now seems to be working within the division tasked with enforcing federal voting laws. This office is currently led by Harmeet Dhillon, an attorney known for promoting 2020 election denial theories.

The Department of Justice has declined to confirm Levin’s employment status or address whether officials vetted his criminal record before the hiring. Critics argue this move mirrors a broader pattern under the current administration, which has offered positions or public support to individuals who have challenged election integrity, such as former Colorado clerk Tina Peters.

This development surfaces as the administration pushes to deploy a large-scale monitoring force to polling stations, raising concerns about potential voter intimidation. Recent claims of widespread noncitizen voting in states like Nevada have largely failed to materialize under scrutiny, yet the focus on aggressive election oversight remains a cornerstone of the administration's current strategy.
