Crypto Mining Pool Poolin Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

The bankruptcy filing, submitted on July 22, consolidates cases for Poolin Technology PTE. LTD., Lonestar Taproot LLC, and Lonestar Dream, Inc. before Judge Eamonn J. O’Hagan. While the company claims assets valued between $1 million and $10 million, its debts dwarf these holdings, pushing the firm toward an orderly liquidation. Chief restructuring officer Michael DuFrayne stated that the Chapter 11 process aims to preserve value through the sale of the companies' remaining mining infrastructure and power-related assets.

The court has already approved bidding procedures for substantially all of the debtors' assets, with a deadline for qualified bids set for September 8. If multiple bids emerge, an auction will follow on September 10, leading to a final sale hearing on September 18 in Trenton. This process follows years of financial instability for the operator, which first signaled a liquidity crisis in September 2022 when it suspended withdrawals from its wallet service and issued IOU tokens to users.

Operational challenges have plagued the firm's subsidiaries, specifically Lonestar Dream, which has largely wound down its mining site activities. Lonestar Taproot, meanwhile, remains entangled in the disposal of substation infrastructure and buildings once utilized in a partnership with mining hardware manufacturer Bitmain. As the proceedings move toward the September hearings, the broader Bitcoin mining sector continues to struggle with declining hashprice levels and increased pressure on profitability, compounding the difficulties for distressed infrastructure providers.
