Conservation Group Backs Crowley in Wisconsin Gubernatorial Race

The endorsement highlights a sharp divide over the regulation of energy-intensive data centers. Seth Hoffmeister, deputy director of the advocacy group, praised Crowley for his efforts to reduce Milwaukee County’s carbon footprint and his proposed framework for community-led oversight of new industrial projects. Crowley’s policy includes mandates for union labor, the elimination of non-disclosure agreements, and developer-funded infrastructure upgrades to mitigate local utility costs.

In contrast, the group targeted Tiffany, a U.S. Congressman representing the 7th District, for a history of legislative actions they describe as toxic. The organization pointed to his past support for mining interests and his votes to defund the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program as evidence of a pattern favoring corporate profit. While Tiffany recently launched an advertising campaign criticizing data center expansion, his opponents argue this stance contradicts his broader record, which includes previous support for federal budget measures aimed at restricting state-level artificial intelligence regulations.
