Dartmouth Endowment Sees $2.2 Million Dip in Crypto ETF Holdings

Dartmouth Endowment Sees $2.2 Million Dip in Crypto ETF Holdings

The latest SEC filing reveals that as of June 30, the university held positions in BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust, the Grayscale Ethereum Staking ETF, and the Bitwise Solana Staking ETF. This portfolio represents roughly 0.14% of the university's total endowment. The $2.2 million reduction from the previous quarter’s $14.6 million valuation aligns with broader market trends, as the underlying digital assets experienced a sustained price dip throughout the spring and early summer.

Because the university did not adjust its share counts, the decline reflects the volatility of the crypto market rather than a change in investment conviction. Dartmouth’s strategy centers on gaining price exposure through regulated U.S.-listed securities, avoiding the complexities of direct token custody. This approach contrasts with other institutional players like Harvard, which actively rebalanced its holdings by liquidating its Ether position and reducing its Bitcoin ETF stake earlier in the year. The Dartmouth filing covers only qualifying 13F securities, leaving the university’s broader private investments and direct asset holdings outside the scope of this public disclosure.
