Copper enters US market with SEC-registered broker-dealer status

The firm’s new US entity will deploy its ClearLoop network, a system designed to mitigate counterparty risk by allowing institutions to pledge crypto and tokenized assets as collateral without moving them directly to trading exchanges. By separating custody from active trading, Copper aims to provide a more secure environment for institutional capital, leveraging its status as a qualified custodian under US regulations.

Copper’s move arrives as federal agencies sharpen their focus on how broker-dealer requirements apply to digital assets. With personnel already registered across compliance and revenue functions, the company is positioning itself to compete with other major entities—such as Circle and BitGo—that have recently secured their own paths to providing regulated custody to US institutions. This regulatory foothold enables Copper to integrate its existing infrastructure, including its staking partnerships with providers like Figment and P2P.org, into a unified domestic service offering.
