Peggy Flanagan Wins Minnesota Senate Primary Against Heavy Dark Money

Flanagan framed her campaign as a contest of the many against the money, successfully pushing a platform that includes Medicare for All and the dismantling of ICE. She secured the nomination despite more than $20 million in outside spending aimed at supporting Craig, a centrist candidate with ties to the crypto industry. A substantial portion of that opposition funding originated from the North Star Dawn PAC, an organization that shields its donors from public disclosure.

Endorsed by high-profile progressives including Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, Flanagan now pivots to the general election. She is set to face Republican nominee Michele Tafoya in November. Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party chair Richard Carlbom dismissed Tafoya’s candidacy, characterizing the former sports reporter as out of touch with Minnesota voters and entirely aligned with the economic policies of Donald Trump. The primary result serves as a distinct counter-narrative to other regional contests, such as the Democratic gubernatorial primary in Wisconsin, where establishment-aligned candidates recently maintained their foothold.
