Denmark Braces for Potential US Aggression Over Greenland

Frederiksen rejected the notion that Trump’s rhetoric is mere posturing, warning that any American military move against the autonomous territory would trigger a total breakdown in relations. Greenland’s Prime Minister, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, echoed this stance, labeling the US president’s designs on the island as entirely unacceptable. He stressed that Greenland is a democracy and a people, not a commodity to be acquired by a superpower.

These warnings emerge as the White House signals potential interventions across Latin America. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has publicly targeted Cuba, while Trump has threatened military action against Colombia and Mexico, citing unverified claims of drug trafficking. Despite these escalating threats, European leaders have offered a fragmented response. While British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and EU officials have voiced support for Danish sovereignty, other key figures—including German Chancellor Friedrich Merz—have adopted a cautious stance on existing US military operations in Venezuela, drawing criticism that such hesitation may inadvertently embolden further territorial overreach.
