The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health reported that the cumulative toll since March 2 has reached 3,468 dead and 10,577 injured. Despite Trump’s claims on Truth Social that Israeli troops had been turned back and a cessation of hostilities was imminent, Netanyahu maintained that his government’s position remains unchanged, promising further strikes on Beirut if Hezbollah continues its attacks.
Mounting Civilian and Medical Toll
Reality on the ground suggests a deepening crisis. On Tuesday, Israeli strikes killed at least nine people across southern Lebanon, including a dentist and his two children near Qlayaa. These incidents followed an airstrike on the Jabal Amel Hospital in Tyre, which left at least four dead and crippled a vital emergency facility. Dr. Abdinasir Abubakar, the WHO representative in Lebanon, warned that such attacks are systematically dismantling the nation’s healthcare infrastructure, noting that nearly 200 strikes on medical facilities have been verified in the last three months alone. As diplomatic efforts shift to Washington for a new round of ceasefire negotiations, voices in the U.S. Congress, including Representative Thomas Massie and Representative Ilhan Omar, are increasingly calling for the suspension of military aid to Israel, citing the catastrophic impact of the ongoing conflict on the Lebanese population.
