AIPAC Eyes Michigan General Election After Primary Spending Spree

The organization’s aggressive posture follows a bruising defeat for their preferred candidate, Rep. Haley Stevens. AIPAC officials have publicly vowed to keep opposing El-Sayed, characterizing his platform as a radical anti-Israel agenda. This interventionist strategy has drawn sharp rebukes from high-profile Democrats, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who accused the group of undermining democratic processes by backing right-wing figures. Rep. Chris Deluzio echoed these concerns, arguing that the group’s influence serves to prioritize foreign policy interests over domestic democratic accountability.

Financial records suggest the organization is well-positioned to escalate its involvement. The United Democracy Project, AIPAC’s super PAC, reported over $80 million in cash reserves as of late June, bolstered by contributions from prominent donors like Paul Singer and Haim Saban. For his part, El-Sayed appears undeterred by the looming influx of outside capital. During a recent town hall, the candidate dismissed the group's tactics, inviting them to continue their spending while framing the contest as a necessary challenge to the influence of foreign interests on American foreign policy.
