Bitcoin developers clash over BIP editor’s conduct

Erhardt’s motion centers on accusations that Dashjr leveraged his position to fast-track BIP110, a proposal designed to restrict specific transaction data. According to Erhardt, Dashjr bypassed standard mailing list discussions and pushed through merges with unusual speed. Erhardt further claimed that Dashjr’s participation in the editorial team has been minimal, noting he produced fewer than 1% of total editor comments since April 2024.

Dashjr immediately rejected the allegations as false, maintaining that he has consistently adhered to established BIP procedures throughout the process. The dispute has polarized contributors. While developer Matt Corallo and fellow editor Olaoluwa Osuntokun have publicly supported the removal, citing procedural concerns, others advocate for caution. Figures like Jameson Lopp noted that the project lacks a formal governance structure to handle such personnel disputes, while Antoine Riard suggested that the community should prioritize defining clearer removal procedures before taking definitive action against an editor.
