NYSE Advances Infrastructure for Onchain Securities Settlement

NYSE Advances Infrastructure for Onchain Securities Settlement

Speaking at a seminar in Seoul, Martin highlighted the exchange’s participation in a July pilot led by The Depository Trust Company (DTCC). This exercise involved over 30 firms, including BlackRock, Goldman Sachs, and JPMorgan, testing live production transactions across a private Besu network and the public Canton network. The pilot successfully processed equity delivery, Treasury transactions, and collateral pledges, marking a transition from sandbox simulations to real-world operational testing.

While the current DTC pilot maintains a T+1 settlement cycle, the exchange continues to develop a separate, dedicated digital platform first announced by parent company Intercontinental Exchange in January. This proposed venue aims to facilitate 24/7 trading, immediate settlement, and stablecoin-based funding. To support this, the NYSE secured an agreement with Securitize in March to act as the first digital transfer agent capable of minting blockchain-native securities.

Regulatory alignment remains a core component of the strategy. An April SEC filing established a framework allowing tokenized shares to trade alongside traditional equities under existing market rules. This ensures that assets like Russell 1000 components retain their original rights while utilizing blockchain rails. As the DTCC prepares for an October launch of its broader tokenization service, the NYSE is positioning its digital infrastructure to bridge the gap between traditional finance and decentralized systems.
