Coinbase Expands UK Platform to Include U.S. Equities Trading

Beginning August 6, the platform began a phased rollout allowing customers to buy, sell, and manage U.S. equities alongside existing crypto holdings. This integration enables trading 24 hours a day, five days a week, utilizing either British Pounds or the USDC stablecoin. By offering fractional shares starting at £1, the company aims to lower the barrier to entry for retail investors who historically participate in stock markets at lower rates than their American counterparts.

Keith Grose, Coinbase’s regional managing director for the UK and Europe, noted that the move is powered by the company's recently obtained MiFID license. While the exchange is exploring the future of tokenized equities, current offerings focus on conventional U.S. stocks to provide immediate utility. Orders are routed through Coinbase Capital Markets Corporation, with custody services provided by Apex Clearing in the United States. The expansion aligns with a broader "Everything Exchange" roadmap, which seeks to unify lending, savings, and diverse asset trading under one interface. As the UK prepares for its upcoming crypto regulatory framework, Coinbase intends to continue launching additional financial products across both British and European markets.
