Kenya Migrates 15 Million Academic Records to Avalanche Blockchain

The initiative covers examination data dating back to 1989, alongside certificates for nearly 1 million candidates from the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations. Students can now download their credentials directly, while employers and academic institutions verify them through the council’s new electronic platform. KNEC CEO David Njengere noted that the shift offers a more reliable, convenient method for managing academic identities in a digital-first environment.

By moving away from physical files and centralized databases, the government aims to eliminate the delays that once hampered recruitment and academic enrollment. The project is slated to expand until it encompasses roughly 35 million records, including primary school qualifications and teacher-training certifications. While the technical specifics regarding data privacy and on-chain storage fields remain undisclosed, the deployment mirrors other government blockchain projects, such as California’s digitization of vehicle titles. Despite the scale of the rollout, the market response remained muted, with the AVAX token showing no significant price movement following the announcement.
