Decentralized exchanges capture 24% of centralized spot volume

The July data arrives against a backdrop of declining activity on centralized venues. Talos reported that total exchange spot volume dropped 28% quarter-over-quarter to $2.32 trillion during the second quarter of 2026, meaning the ratio grew partly due to a cooling centralized market. DefiLlama rankings currently place Solana, BNB Chain, Ethereum, and Base among the top ecosystems, with Robinhood Chain emerging as a significant contributor following the July 2 deployment of four Uniswap protocol versions.

While the 24% figure represents a high point for the current data series, historical context remains complex. Previous reports from 2025 cited ratios as high as 29%, likely due to methodological revisions or changes in the specific exchanges included in the calculation. Current figures rely on a dashboard tracking the top 30 decentralized exchanges, creating a specialized metric rather than a market-wide total. Whether this trend persists depends on whether Robinhood Chain sustains its initial momentum and if traders continue favoring permissionless protocols over established centralized alternatives.
