The Zero-Knowledge Proof of Seed Provenance (ZK-PoSP) allows a wallet to prove knowledge of its underlying seed phrase without exposing the data itself. By operating alongside existing signature systems, the method seeks to replace classical signing steps if quantum computers eventually gain the capacity to derive private keys from public ones via Shor’s algorithm. The design covers standard curves like secp256k1 and Ed25519, as well as hierarchical deterministic standards including BIP32 and SLIP-10.
Implementation requires significant node-level software upgrades and participation from wallet providers to generate the necessary proofs. While AmericanFortress reports that proof generation costs roughly $0.002 and verification takes under 10 milliseconds in test environments, these figures do not account for the overhead of live blockchain integration. CEO Michal “Mehow” Pospieszalski noted that hardware acceleration could further optimize these performance metrics, yet the system’s post-quantum security remains conjectural until tested against actual quantum-capable hardware.
Broad adoption faces substantial hurdles, as the proposal relies on network-wide consensus among miners, developers, and node operators. This initiative enters a crowded field of post-quantum research, competing with efforts like the Bitcoin Security Consortium’s $15 million funding pledge and the Ethereum Foundation’s independent roadmap for hash-based signatures. Ultimately, the viability of ZK-PoSP hinges on successful independent audits and the commercial terms under which AmericanFortress intends to license its software development kit.
