NYC to Launch Municipal Grocery Stores with 30% Price Cuts

Speaking at a food distribution center in Brooklyn, Mamdani emphasized that the stores are intended to provide stability for families struggling with volatile food pricing. Deputy Mayor for Economic Justice Julie Su added that the model prioritizes both cost reduction and the creation of quality jobs for local staff. The first site is scheduled to open in the Bronx in 2027, with the city aiming to complete a full rollout of five stores—one in each borough—by the end of the mayor’s first term.
