Argentina’s Banking Groups Pivot to Peso Stablecoins for Corporate Use

BIND Group is leading the charge through its subsidiary BEN, which already maintains a partnership with Circle to facilitate USDC access for institutional clients. Simultaneously, Petersen Group has advanced its DIPE project to the whitepaper stage, utilizing technical infrastructure from Lirium. Both initiatives bypass the Central Bank of Argentina’s May 2022 prohibition on banks providing crypto services by housing the technology outside the regulated banking entities.

These digital pesos are designed specifically for corporate utility, prioritizing programmable payment conditions, collateral management, and on-chain treasury settlements. Unlike dollar-pegged tokens widely used by citizens to hedge against inflation, these projects focus on the functional digitization of the peso for enterprise-level financial operations. While regulators have previously scrutinized peso-linked assets—most notably the argt stablecoin—the institutional backing of these new ventures provides a unique bridge between traditional finance and blockchain infrastructure. Should the central bank eventually relax its restrictions, these established frameworks could serve as the primary vehicles for formal banking integration into the digital asset ecosystem.
