The legal filings follow a string of lease suspensions issued by the Department of the Interior, which cited national security and radar interference concerns. Empire Wind, currently 60% complete off the New York coast, argues the order is unlawful and threatens thousands of jobs tied to the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal. Similarly, the Revolution Wind project—already 87% finished—seeks to reverse a pause that arrived just as the site prepared to begin generating power for Rhode Island and Connecticut.
Dominion Energy, overseeing the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project, has also initiated litigation in Virginia. The company maintains that delays jeopardize grid reliability and inflate costs for consumers. While the White House characterizes the wind industry as a "scam" and prioritizes "America First" energy policies, critics and watchdog groups contend the administration's actions are legally indefensible. Internal concerns have emerged regarding potential conflicts of interest within the Department of the Interior, further complicating the administration's claims that the shutdowns are rooted in genuine security needs.
