Galaxy Digital Launches $5 Million Fund for Bitcoin Quantum Readiness

The initiative, dubbed the Bitcoin Quantum Readiness Initiative, provides grants for researchers and developers focused on building quantum-resistant signature schemes and robust wallet migration tools. Galaxy emphasizes that the transition to post-quantum cryptography will likely require years of consensus among core developers, exchanges, and infrastructure providers, necessitating a proactive approach to security.

While current quantum machines cannot compromise Bitcoin’s existing standards, the firm points to a CryptoQuant estimate suggesting that nearly $461 billion in assets could be exposed if cryptographic protections are not modernized. Beyond providing its own capital, Galaxy is calling on universities and industry partners to contribute both expertise and funding to the open-source effort. This push arrives as federal agencies, spurred by recent executive orders from the Trump administration, accelerate national investment in quantum hardware, effectively shortening the window for the digital asset ecosystem to prepare for a new era of computing.
