Passport Mobility Widens as Global Peace Fades

Singapore continues to hold the top spot, granting its citizens access to 192 countries. The UAE has staged the most dramatic ascent in the index's history, climbing to second place alongside Japan and South Korea with 188 destinations. This shift reflects a massive gain of 153 visa-free entries over twenty years. Conversely, the gap between the most and least mobile citizens has reached a record 170 destinations, as Afghanistan remains at the bottom of the rankings.

Data from Henley & Partners highlights a strong positive correlation between national peacefulness and passport strength. However, significant outliers persist; the United States, Israel, France, and Ukraine maintain high mobility rankings despite lower scores on the Global Peace Index. According to chairman Dr. Christian H. Kaelin, passport power serves as a measure of geopolitical capital, reflecting a nation's desirability as a partner for trade and security rather than its internal stability alone. Meanwhile, structural imbalances remain, as research suggests current visa policies continue to systematically disadvantage African travelers compared to those from wealthier states.
