The ACLU review analyzed over 1,200 immigration enforcement incidents, finding that agents employed excessive force as a default tactic in more than a third of cases. Documentation shows 418 instances of physical aggression, including tackling and pinning individuals to the ground, often to coerce immediate compliance rather than address genuine threats. In one instance, Border Patrol agents pepper-sprayed and struck a 54-year-old construction worker in Illinois, then denied his sister access to him at the hospital.
Patterns of Escalation and Profiling
Beyond physical violence, the agency has increasingly targeted sensitive locations like schools, courthouses, and places of worship. The report identifies 437 cases of suspected racial profiling, where individuals were stopped based on appearance, language, or location. These aggressive tactics have ensnared at least 200 US citizens or individuals with legal status. Despite intense public scrutiny following recent deaths in custody, the Trump administration remains committed to its strategy, bolstered by a $240 billion budget increase from Congress. White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller has reportedly set a daily arrest quota of 3,000, asserting that all individuals are potential targets under the current directive.
