Outrage Mounts as President Trump Stalls Bipartisan Housing Reform

The National Association of Realtors reported the new price high on Thursday, citing stagnant inventory as the primary driver of market unaffordability. Chief economist Lawrence Yun warned that without consistent supply growth, home prices will continue to accelerate, further locking prospective buyers out of the market. The pending bill seeks to mitigate these pressures by streamlining environmental reviews and establishing a $200 million annual grant program for communities increasing their housing stock.

President Trump has refused to sign the measure, demanding it be bundled with the SAVE America Act—a controversial voter suppression bill that lacks the necessary support in Congress to pass. This stalemate has drawn sharp rebukes from Capitol Hill. Senator Elizabeth Warren, a co-author of the housing bill, joined colleagues Amy Klobuchar and Representative Chris Pappas in demanding immediate action. Meanwhile, broader economic instability—compounded by inflationary pressures linked to the conflict with Iran—has constrained the Federal Reserve’s ability to lower interest rates, leaving the housing market in a precarious position.
