The report from Data for Progress identifies a pivotal, persuadable bloc—many of whom supported Donald Trump in 2024—that remains largely unmoved by conventional political messaging. Instead, their primary concern is the crushing weight of the cost of living. While nearly half of these voters remain undecided, those leaning toward Democrats are signaling a desire for bold action. Among the most popular proposals, 28% of respondents prioritized raising taxes on the wealthy, while 24% championed a Medicare for All-style healthcare system.

Beyond fiscal policy, these voters expressed support for tangible protections against corporate overreach, such as banning the use of personal data for AI-driven price gouging and capping utility costs. Ryan O'Donnell, executive director of Data for Progress, argues the findings debunk the theory that Democrats must shift toward Republican-aligned stances to capture the middle. Instead, voters are demanding an agenda that prioritizes workers and directly addresses the inflation that defines their daily lives.
