The Solar for All initiative, launched in 2023 with the backing of Senator Bernie Sanders, was designed to provide solar access to approximately 900,000 households while lowering energy costs. The program had previously faced a temporary freeze in February following an executive order mandating a review of climate-related spending, though funding was briefly reinstated in March.
Senator Sanders criticized the proposed cancellation as a move to safeguard fossil fuel interests at the expense of working families, vowing to challenge the administration's actions. Proponents of the program, including the Natural Resources Defense Council and various industry representatives, argue that the investments provide immediate relief on utility bills and support job creation across both politically conservative and liberal jurisdictions. Legal advocacy groups have already signaled an intent to contest the revocation in court, describing the administration's attempt to claw back the funds as unlawful.
