Maine faces $50 million nutrition aid bill after Collins-backed vote

Advocates warn that the mandate could force states to slash education spending or abandon the program entirely to balance their budgets. While Senator Collins emphasizes her opposition to the budget’s final passage, her earlier support in June was instrumental in moving the $1 trillion cut package to the floor.
